“But What About This Lab I Saw Online?” Why TrueCare DPC Doesn’t Chase Every Abnormal Result—and Why That’s a Good Thing
Not all lab results have what we call “clinical significance.” Let’s explain why that’s important to understand.
If you’ve spent time on Instagram or gone down the rabbit hole of wellness TikTok, you’ve probably been told that nearly everything is a sign of disease. Maybe you did a food sensitivity panel, got your genes tested, or found a clinic that ran 27 pages of labs and told you your “detox pathways” are broken.
It’s overwhelming. And honestly? It’s probably not helping.
At TrueCare DPC, we take a very different approach—not because we don’t care about data, but because we care deeply about what the data actually means.
Let’s talk about a concept that most people have never been taught: clinical significance.
What Is Clinical Significance?
Just because a test result is technically outside the “normal” range doesn’t mean something is wrong. Our bodies are full of variability. Many lab values fluctuate based on hydration, stress, exercise, or even the time of day. Genetics? Even more complex. You can carry a gene variant that has no effect whatsoever—until someone tells you it might be dangerous, and now you’re carrying anxiousness instead.
Clinical significance means this:
Does this finding actually impact your health or function in a meaningful way? Does it explain your symptoms?
This is a big one: Will it actually change our plan of care?
If the answer is no, we file it away. We don’t ignore it—but we don’t let it hijack the conversation either.
We don’t believe in medicine that creates fear where none is needed.
Why We Start With You, Not a Lab
At TrueCare DPC, your visit doesn’t start with labs. It starts with your story. We ask the questions no one else asks. We listen to your lived experience. Then we perform a detailed physical exam, looking for real patterns, not just lab outliers.
If we suspect something, we order the right labs or imaging to confirm—not to guess.
This isn’t because we don’t “believe” in testing. We just believe it should serve you, not the other way around.
In fact, ordering tests without a good reason often causes more harm than good. It leads to:
Unnecessary worry over findings that aren’t dangerous
Expensive supplements or treatments with no proven benefit
A false sense of control based on numbers instead of outcomes
A distracted provider chasing “optimal ranges” while missing the actual root issue
What Makes This Different From Conventional Care?
In conventional care, you might get 7 minutes with a rushed clinician who glances at your labs, says “everything looks fine,” and sends you out the door. That’s frustrating—and we hear that story all the time.
But swinging to the other extreme—running every test possible and obsessing over subclinical findings—doesn’t serve you either. That’s where people start treating conditions they don’t actually have, often spending thousands on “wellness” without getting well.
We believe the right path is in the middle.
Rooted in good medicine. Anchored in logic. Informed by your lived experience.
You Deserve Thoughtful Care—Not Reactionary Care
When you come to TrueCare DPC, we’re not going to scare you with things that don’t matter.
